When you first hear it – “Rob Ford: The Musical
” – you think, ha, ha, funny idea. Done right, that could be a good Saturday Night Live
skit. I mean, this guy’s a living, breathing caricature, right? Good for five minutes of laughs.
Well, three guys in Toronto have bigger things in mind. They plan to stage “Rob Ford: The Musica
l” at the Factory Theater in the Great White North this September. They’ve got a casting notice up on their website
with auditions scheduled for next week.
This is the magic of live theater. On the one hand, you’ve got “All The Way
,” about one politician’s fight to gather support for the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that won the 2014 Tony for Best Play.
On the other hand, you’ve got “Rob Ford: The Musical
,” about a politician’s fight for his right to party all the way to rehab.
Both end of the spectrums, folks.
