The vice-president of the senior class at Mundy’s Mill High School in Georgia was suspended last week after someone figured out the meaning of her yearbook quote:
“When the going gets tough, just remember to Barium, Carbon, Potassium, Thorium, Astatine, Arsenic, Sulfur, Uranium, Phosphorus.”
When you use the periodic table as a decoder ring, that translates to “When the going gets tough, just remember to Ba-C-K Th-At As-S U-P.”
It’s probably a reference to an old rap song by Juvenile. Paris Gray, the senior-in-trouble, says it simply means you’ve got to go back and start over.
The girl combines English, music and chemistry with a good dose of humor, and she gets suspended. Way to applaud ingenuity, boys and girls!
